Puzzle People

Michael started Puzzle People in 1972, initially as a San Francisco street artist and traveling the US to sell at craft fairs. When Pier 39 opened, the Puzzle People shop was one personally selected by entrepreneur Warren Simmons to have a shop there. Then came wholesale accounts - mail order catalogs such as the Horchow Collection, Sensational Beginnings, Faith Mountain, Proctor and Gamble's Pampers Premium catalog and others. He opened several shops as well - one at Faneuil Hall in Boston. Wholesale accounts also included the Guggenheim Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution and - in 2010 our last wholesale order - puzzles featuring BO (the first dog) for President Obama to gift to children he met through his diplomatic travels. Puzzle People business grew until at age 70 Michael and his wife Pat decided to downsize and move to Mendocino to enjoy the beauty of the 25 acre redwood grove they own. Fifty years in business and still loving his job making quality wooden puzzles for kids of all ages. As you can imagine, he is a VERY good cutter. Pat handles both the artistic side of the business and customer service. Son Jeff and Joanna have now joined the business. We take pride in the skill and quality of our puzzles, in our large and loyal following, and most of all in bringing a fun way of learning to the children and their families who keep and treasure our map puzzles.
